Preventative care and important health checks

At Eramosa Family Medical Centre, we’re dedicated to supporting women’s health across all ages. Our services range from contraception and cervical screening to pregnancy care and menopause management, ensuring you receive expert care tailored to your needs. Prevention is central to our approach. We provide screenings, lifestyle advice, and early interventions to keep you healthy at every life stage, from adolescence to your senior years.

How we can help...

Contraception and Sexual Health

We offer expert advice on a range of contraception options to suit your lifestyle. Short-acting methods include the pill, vaginal rings, and injectables, while long-acting options like intrauterine devices (IUDs) and hormonal implants, such as Implanon, are also available. Our GPs will discuss the benefits, suitability, and potential side effects of each option with you. Call us to book a consultation.

Sexual health screenings are essential, especially if it’s been a while since your last check-up or if you’ve recently changed partners. Untreated STIs, like Chlamydia, can lead to complications such as pelvic inflammatory disease or infertility. Book a discreet appointment for peace of mind.

Breast Health

Breast awareness is a key part of women’s health. Get to know how your breasts normally look and feel so you can spot changes early—visit breastcancer.org for self-exam tips. Through BreastScreen Australia, women aged 50-74 are invited for free mammograms every two years. Those over 75 can also access free screenings if desired. If you notice changes or have a family history of breast cancer, see your GP to discuss your risk and next steps.

Cervical Screening

Eramosa Family Medical Centre offers Cervical Screening Tests (CST), which replaced the Pap smear in 2017. The CST checks for HPV, a virus linked to cervical cell changes. Screening starts at age 25, and if HPV isn’t detected, your next test is in five years. If HPV is found, further analysis will determine whether you need a follow-up in 12 months or a specialist referral. Book a double appointment for your CST, and see your doctor promptly if you experience abnormal bleeding, discharge, or pain during sex.
